Mayor & Commissioners' Workshop August 4, 2014

Workshop Meeting of the Mayor and Commissioners

August 4, 2014

The Mayor and Commissioners met in a workshop meeting on August 4, 2014. All commissioners were in attendance except Commissioner Hunker.

Among other issues discussed:

Electric Vehicle Charging Station

City Manager Sharon Lynn and Dr. Willet Kempton, of the University of Delaware's Center for Carbon-Free Power Integration, led a discussion on a possible electric vehicle charging station in the city. This follows a previous discussion held by the Mayor and commissioners, when commissioners requested more information.

Potential locations include the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center, Mariner's Park next to the Henlopen condominiums, and the Martin's Lawn parking lot. Each of these locations have a power source nearby, but all would require some upgrade on power capacity.

A grant would be available for many of the costs if installation of the charging station.

Questions included advantages and disadvantages of each location, maintenance costs, reliability, the terms of the grant and other factors.

Discussion of merger and unmerger of lots in the city

The Mayor and Commissioners continued their discussion of a potential ordinance that would amend the Zoning Code to clarify the process of merger and unmerger. Any changes would follow a public hearing on the matter.

After a long discussion, it was decided more research is necessary and redrafting of new ordinances will follow.
